A Recognised Heritage Town
Mount Torrens was declared a State Heritage Area in 2002, recognising its outstanding historical and architectural significance — the only State Heritage Area within the Adelaide Hills Council.
At the opening of the Coach House in 2003, then Mayor Bill Cooksley described the town as the “Jewel in the Crown” of the Adelaide Hills and announced that powerlines within the heritage area would be placed underground. However, little progress followed in the years that followed.
Discover Mount Torrens was formed in 2023 as a renewed community initiative to advocate for the undergrounding of powerlines, sensitive streetscape improvements, and greater recognition of Mount Torrens’ heritage significance by Council and visitors alike.
