The Heart of our Community
The Mount Torrens and Districts Community Association Incorporated (MTDCA) was established in 2004, when local residents came together to preserve the area’s rich history and strengthen community connections.
Ross Leckie served as the Association’s inaugural Chairperson, helping to build a strong foundation for ongoing community involvement.

A Heritage Declared and Celebrated
In 2002, Mount Torrens was declared a State Heritage Area, recognising the unique significance of its history, architecture, and streetscape.
This recognition highlighted the importance of protecting the township’s heritage and was a key factor in the formation of the Mount Torrens and Districts Community Association in 2004.
Mount Torrens remains a remarkable example of 19th-century settlement, with many buildings largely unchanged since the 1870s — a legacy the Association continues to preserve and promote.

Community Spirit in Action
Since its formation, the MTDCA has brought people together to celebrate and promote Mount Torrens’ heritage and community life.
Our volunteer-led initiatives include township information boards, historical photo displays, community events, and fundraising activities. The Association has also supported improvements to local facilities, including the provision of public toilets.
Through shared effort and local involvement, we help ensure that the stories, places, and heritage of Mount Torrens are preserved and shared for future generations.

Mission
Our goal is to safeguard Mount Torrens' rich heritage and build a strong community identity.
Through collaboration with local authorities and the community, we aim to preserve historical buildings and environments with sensitivity.
By actively participating in projects, securing funding, and celebrating achievements, we seek to enhance the cultural and physical fabric of the district, serving as a dedicated link between stakeholders and promoting vibrant community activities at local heritage sites. We aim to create a harmonious blend of the past and present, leaving a cherished legacy for future generations.
